What’s in My Makeup Bag: Fall Edition

The seasons they are a changing and so is my makeup bag. With the cooler weather I start to reintroduce more makeup back into my routine, and like fashion, makeup to has a transitional period. I thought I would share some new products that I have really been loving lately and that are all new to me.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita II – this terracotta nude is the perfect color for the fall and if you are not familiar with Kat Von D’s liquid lipstick then you have to go out and pick it up. The formula is very creamy and easy to apply but yet leaves a matte finish that lasts a decent amount of time. Along with the original Lolita shade, this is one of the brands best sellers and maybe even one of Sephora’s top sellers and I can see why. The shade is just very complimentary and not a nude shade you see often.

Wowder by Glossier – promoted as not a powder for the days you don’t want to look dewy and want to control shine. In the summer I am all about that dewy glow and I still like a little bit in the fall but there are more spots I want matte or at least to be able to control the dew. This is probably one of the best powders I have used on my skin, it is up there with Laura Mercier’s Translucent Setting Powder. The kaolin clay in this formula absorbs oil but vanishes into the skin (instead of sitting and caking on top like most powders). There is also vitamin E which gives Wowder its silky, non-drying texture which gives the finish I am raving about.

Glossier Cloud Paint in Beam – This is my third shade of this product because I LOVE this blush! It is so blendable, buildable, and you can mix it with other shades in the collection and create a new one so the possibilities are endless. It comes in three shades all which represent the NYC sunset and the shades are made to work across a wide range of skin tones for a “healthy, flushed-from-within glow.”

**If you want to try out these Glossier products use my rep link HERE to receive 20% off your first purchase. Also, save $7 when you buy the brush and Wowder together and $6 when you buy a Cloud Paint Duo (which in reality is more than 2 shades when you mix them) along with free shipping!**

Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Eye Shadow Palette – Now this is a very recent purchase and I am still playing around with all these rich pigmented colors. I have been seeing beauty YouTubers using this palette and creating these obviously dramatic looks, but also these amazing day looks that convinced me to go to Sephora and play with it. This palette is very intimidating in person so I had a girl from Sephora show me some great ways to mix and play with these colors. Once my eye look was done I was just like take my money.

MAC ‘Pro Longwear’ Paint Pot*CURRENTLY 15% OFF AT NORDSTROM* Another product that I kept seeing YouTubers refer to this as a cult product. This is a great base to any eyeshadow look and looks beautiful on its own, gives a very 90s eye by itself. There is magic in this formula let me tell you – its very buildable and creamy but yet has a vibrant finish which does not cake or crease.

Nighttime Skincare Routine

IMG_2353

I start out by removing all my makeup and depending on what I have on my face that day I may use my Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm for a more fuller face along with micellar water or just the Milky Jelly Cleanser from Glossier to remove and cleanse. I have a couple other cleansers I use and alternate during the week depending on what I feel my face needs. Twice a week I like to exfoliate my face with either Mario Badescu Glyolic Foaming Cleanser or just plain old baking soda which was recommended to my friend and me from a woman in Ulta with heart shaped glasses. ♥

I then spritz my face with Mario Badescu’s Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater which I have been using religiously for the past year. Rosewater seems to work really with my skin and I feel like I’m pampering myself when I spray this all over my face and chest. Side-note, I also keep a tiny travel size one at my desk at work for a little midday refresh.

IMG_2354

Currently, for nighttime, I am using this thicker eye cream that I received in an Amazon beauty box by SKIN&CO Roma Truffle Therapy Eye Concentrate,. I really like this for nighttime and even though it’s thicker it absorbs nicely. Any excess I like to run around my lips since the skin is very similar and I heard this helps minimize smile lines.

I like to treat my skin with 2 products, first I use The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% and let that absorb into my skin for a few minutes. Then I use my Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate, which my skin just loves and eats up. When I am really in the pampering mood I use my jade roller which I got off Amazon.com to work in the Midnight Recovery Concentrate.

IMG_2355

Once that is all said and done I like to moisturize with coconut oil, my skin is glowing when I wake up in the morning. In fact, I use coconut oil all over my body, kinda putting myself into a coconut oil cocoon.

My 5 Makeup Essentials for Summer

As the weather continues to get warmer I notice I make tweaks to my makeup routine, switching out some certain products for creamier ones. I wanted to share those items with you this week, so here are my 5 makeup picks to keep in your makeup bag this summer!

Creamy Eyeshadow Palette

IMG_2059

Skip the eyeliner and utilize an eyeshadow that can do both and the best way to do it is with cream shadow. Get a palette like Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow in the shade Not Just Nudes. The colors blends so nicely together and have a shimmer that is perfect for summer.

Cream Blush

IMG_2056

I love cream blush for the summer months because it lays on the skin so naturally, it just looks like your sunkissed from a day in the sun. My go to blush lately has been Glossier Cloud Paint, in shades Haze and Dusk. Use code 2BLUSH to get two for $30 and use link code http://bff.glossier.com/fCxL8 for 20% off your first order!

Skin Tints or Tinted Moisturizers

IMG_2057

I try to go foundation free in the summer months and just use concealer on my under eyes and blemishes, but there are days when I feel that I need a little something extra and I have been loving the Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint. It doesn’t add much coverage but it enhances the natural look of your skin and still allows any freckles to show through.

Cream Highlighter

IMG_2058

Switch your powder highlighter for a cream version to give you cheekbones a natural glow. Also use it down your nose, on your cupid bow, and even under your brows. Haloscope from Glossier in Quartz is what I have been reaching for lately, Glossier also has 2 more colors to check out depending on your skin tone.

A Bright Lip Color

IMG_2055

Glossier Generation G gives the effect of just blotted lipstick and lays on the lips nicely without being overdrying. For a little extra moisture though I love to apply some coconut Balm Dot Com first then apply Generation G in the shade Zip, a poppy red color.

What is in your summer makeup bag?

Morning Skincare Routing // May 2017

Hello, beautiful readers and happy Monday! I wanted to talk about my current morning skincare routine today. I have been basically using these products or variations of these products for a couple months now. As I mentioned before I am slowly transitioning my products to cruelty-free but I still have quite a bit to work through. But I just want to state that I am not a licensed esthetician and this is just what I am using currently and what works for my normal/slightly combo skin type.

SIMPLE Cleansing Micellar Water

FullSizeRender_4

I don’t use a cleanser in the AM, instead, I opt for micellar water. It’s nice and gentle in the morning and honestly how dirty does my face get while I am sleeping, there is no need to strip my face, just removing the products from last night. Currently, I am going through my stockpile of micellar water, I was using Garnier for awhile, but I am on the look out for a cruelty-free on to replace these both, any recommendations?

MARIO BADESCU Facial Spray With Aloe, Herb and Rosewater

Next, I spritz my face with this rose water spray, it’s such a nice wake me up in the morning. Rosewater has anti-inflammation properties and helps with redness and irritation. I have been using Mario Badescu’s rosewater for over a year now and I can’t get enough of it (I even keep a small one at my desk at work for a 2 pm refresh). This spray also has a duel purpose as a makeup setting spray, whenever I do a full face.

ORIGINS GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream (sample size)

FullSizeRender_7

While I am letting the rosewater dry and absorb into my skin I dab on this Origins eye cream that I got a sample of from Sephora. I don’t have any particular eye cream that I love at the moment so I am currently working through the samples I have.

FIG + YARROW Facial Serum Rosehip + Argan

FullSizeRender_5

I talked about this in my Target Natural Aisle post (Here) and I have been alternating this and the next item every morning. I am still loving this formula and how it absorbs nicely into the skin. I am noticing the ingredient rosehip oil more and more lately and actually seems to be a new “trend” in skincare. But, the great thing about rosehip oil is that it helps with discoloration and wrinkle prevention. This oil is packed with antioxidants and fatty acids to help improve skin texture. Bottomline, you don’t have to try this particular brand but I recommend you trying rosehip oil this year.

OLEHENRIKSEN Truth Serum

Another amazing Sephora sample that I alternate with the above product. Without a doubt, if you want to have vitamin C serum in your routine this is, in my opinion, one of the best products out there. Its benefit is brightening your skin tone and preventing signs of aging and absorbs nicely.

PIXI By Petra Sun Mist

FullSizeRender_6

This is a newly acquired product (if any of you follow me on Instagram Alison_Kozik this might look familiar) to my morning skincare routine. I’ve been in the market for a good facial sunscreen that doesn’t clog my pore and this is it. Once I shake it up I spray it about 3 times onto my face and instead of rubbing it into my skin, I pat it in. I’ve notice Pixi products popping up more and more on beauty blogs and youtube videos and I have only recently come intrigued by the product line. I have a couple things I want to try next on my list which I will keep you posted on.

GLOSSIER Priming Moisturizer

I really like this moisturizer for the daytime, especially when I am wearing makeup. This product provides a great base for makeup or just a bare face. I would recommend an actual primer if you are using full coverage foundation.

GLOSSIER Balm Dotcom

FullSizeRender_7

And to top the whole process off I apply some Balm Dotcom and let that soak into my lips before I apply any lip product.

Have you tried any of these products?

March 2017 Favorites

Happy Monday to all! Is it me or did March fly by? I can’t believe it is already April and we already have showers, at least in Cleveland. Below are my favorites things from 5 different categories for the month of March, I hope you find something below to try for the month of April!

Books, Movies, & TV

Book: Not That Kinda Girl by Lena Dunham

First off let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of Lena’s work and what she stands for, so I was really excited to start this book. Second, I listened to this book on Audible (literally one of the best things invited today) and loved that she personally narrated her book. What I loved about this book is that you can see where she drew her inspiration for in Girls and Tiny Furniture and made me feel like I had a better understanding of her work and who she is as a person. She talks about uncomfortable topics that a lot of people still shy away from today and tackles them head on. It is a fantastic read/listen and I recommend you picking it up this April if you haven’t already.

Movie: Beauty and the Beast

GOOSEBUMPS! I had goosebumps and was on the edge of my seat for this movie. I felt like a little kid again and was filled with nostalgia. I hear people disappointed that it wasn’t EXACTLY like the cartoon original and I hear some people say it wasn’t different enough, but if you take it for what it is as its own independent movie you will thoroughly enjoy it. Also, the soundtrack is killer so I recommend giving that a listen too.

TV: Netflix’s Original Love season 2

This comedy stems from the minds of Judd Apatow, Lesley Arfin, and Paul Rust. Season 1 hooked me where two polar opposite people meet by chance and it shows a good look at dating in today’s modern age. If you a single person in today’s world you will definitely get a good laugh out of this and shake your head in agreeance as you possibly relate to it.

Activities

Wineries –

Wineries seemed to be a big part of March. My cousin had her bridal shower at one outside of Erie and my friend Courtney had a winery crawl in Geneva. I’ve never been to Geneva wineries (I know, right?) so I was really excited to celebrate Courtney’s birthday there. We started at Laurentia which was beautiful, we enjoyed two bottles of white wine in the cellar. Then we moved to South River which is in an old church, they were having an ice wine festival so it was a bit packed but we lucked out snagging a table and switched it up to their Trinty red wine. Last but not least we ended at Hundley Cellars for some more white wine, some snacks, and live music!

Car Shopping –

This past week I went car shopping since my lease was up and I am pretty pumped about my new car. After having a VW Jetta for 4 years I wanted to upgrade to a small SVU, a VW Tiguan to be exact. Although nobody wants to spend their entire day at a car dealership I am really happy so far with my new car.

Beauty (Skincare & Makeup)

Glosser Cloud Paint –

As we all know I LOVE GLOSSIER so I had a feeling I was going to like their new Cloudpaint Blushes. First of all, Glossier killed it with the packaging, yet again, they look like acrylic paints which bring me back to my art class days. A little product goes a long way which means this tube of blush will last you awhile. It comes it four shades, Dusk (nudey), Puff (pink), Beam (coral), and Haze (berry) which were inspired by the NYC sunsets. Glossier was and still is offering a 2 for $30 deal with the code 2BLUSH, I got Dusk and Haze. Haze is the perfect flush which looks like maybe I just went to the gym maybe not? (definitely not, though). And Dusk which is a nudey colors which I have been using as a natural looking bronzer and an eyeshadow. These formulas blend effortlessly together and on my skin. L’Oreal Paris Skin Care Pure Clay Mask Detox and Brighten –

This was an impulse purchase at Walgreens between coupons and sales it was “basically” free. Out of the 3 clay masks that L’Oreal has out at the moment, I decided on the detox and brightening mask since it was more geared towards a normal skin type. What I love about this mask besides its actually easy to apply and remove compared to other clay masks, you can actually see the impurities being drawn out. I love when I can see products working.

Hair

Umberto Dry Texture Spray –

I love texturizing spray, it is my favorite thing to use when I curl my hair. I needed a new one and was at target one day and wasn’t in the mood to spend more than $10 and this guy was $9.99. I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did, and although I never heard or used the brand before, I have seen it in Target for quite some time. If you want a good texturizing spray at a good price point give this one a try!

FullSizeRender_2

Batiste Dry Shampoo Clean & Light Bare –

I hate washing my hair and if I can drag out my hair style for a couple days I will and a good way of doing that is a dry shampoo. And surprise, you don’t need to spend a lot on a decent dry shampoo. My favorite drugstore dry shampoo has been Dove for quite some time, but my friend Gina swears by Bastiste! I decided to give it a try and I am not disappointed. I decided to get the Bare scent, which is a clean and light scent that is not overwhelming. Move over Dove I think I have a new drugstore dry shampoo favorite!

Fashion

MIA Elsa Mules –

Ever since I received these last week I cannot stop wearing them! I talked about them in my Shoes for Spring post from last week (you can read it here). I love the effortless vintage look it has been adding to my outfits and it is such a great transitional show moving from winter to spring.

What did you love in the month of March? And let me know if you have tried anything I mentioned!

Alison’s Articles // Glossier Review

Happy Monday beautiful humans, I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! I have decided to start a new series, titled Alison’s Articles. Where every so often I focus solely on one thing or general topic instead of my usual five things. For this article, I am focusing on Glossier products and reviewing all the ones that I have tried so far! After reading through my review make sure you check out all their products on their website, Glossier Dot Com. The company strives itself as easy to use basics and all of their products are good for your skin and bottom line Glossier kills it with their cool girl-Instagram worthy packaging (I bow down to your packaging department).

IMG_1138

Balm Dotcom in original and coconut flavor – I have talked about this one in a previous post here, but in that one, I just raved about the original. Shortly after I bought the coconut flavor to keep with me in my purse while I use the original in my am and pm routines. They have other flavors such as mint and rose, but the coconut gets sold out a lot so I knew I had to see why. This scent makes you feel like it is summertime and they you should be on vacation.

IMG_1139

Super Glow Serum – I wanted to really like this product, and although I didn’t hate it, I also didn’t see much difference with it. This consistency is very much that of water which allows it to dry quickly on the skin, but it wasn’t what I was used to when it comes to a serum. I would still want to try Glossier’s Super Pure and Bounce serum to see if those would work with my skin. But for the $ price tag and the size, I don’t think I would be repurchasing Super Glow.

FullSizeRender

Priming Moisturizer – I love this moisturizer! This is a great am prep before applying your makeup and it sets you up for a great base all day. Now, this moisturizer is a great beginning step before makeup, but it also looks great on its own. This product does an excellent job of creating a cushiony texture, calming redness, and leaving a dewy finish while prepping your skin. It also comes in a rich formula which I hear can be great for day and night use and you don’t have to have dry skin to really appreciate the wonder this guy does.

IMG_1140

Perfecting Skin Tint in shade medium – this stuff bottom line, in my opinion, helps you achieve the “no-makeup” face. I’ve seen YouTube videos where people add a few drops to their hands then apply to their face, but I actually just find it easier to apply directly to my face then just work into my skin with my hands. This skin tint will even out skin tone but it won’t cover up your freckles or imperfections, which as I get older I find myself more accepting of and don’t feel the need to hide. There are only 5 shades to choose from but that is because their formula “auto-fits” your skin.

IMG_1141

Stretch Concealer in shade medium – At first I couldn’t tell if I liked this or not but over time I ended actually really like this product. Now, this concealer isn’t full coverage, it is very light coverage and gives a skin-like finish. I like to use it under my eye and around my nose where redness can happen, but when it comes to blemishes this guy probably won’t do the best job covering much. I love how this formula almost turns to an oily texture (it has avocado & jojoba oil in it) when I warm it in the pot with my finger, it makes for a really nice application.

IMG_1142

Boy Brow in the shade brown – Let me start off by saying that I have recently purchased my second one. I really love this brow product and the price tag isn’t horrible, especially when you compare it to the Gimme Brow from Benefit (which I used for years before this guy). This pairs really nicely with brow pencils for a more dramatic look but looks flawless and groomed on its own.

Generation G lipstick in the shade Cake – I have a love-hate relationship with this lipstick, sometimes I love it as the perfect shade to mimic my natural lip color and sometimes I hate it where I don’t think the formula is very good for the price point. I recently watched a YouTube video where YouTuber Chrissstttiiine uses her Generation G lipstick as a creamy eyeshadow since she didn’t care for it much on her lips (go to minutes 10:17 to check it out). I tried it out a couple days this week and I actually really liked the way it looked! It just goes to show that products have multiple uses and just because you don’t like it the way it was intended doesn’t mean you shouldn’t experiment with it a little.

Five Things // February 10th, 2017

Happy Friday wonderful people! If you are reading this right when it posted then I have already landed in Germany, hallo Deutschland! Yes, that is right I was lucky enough to get to go for 6 days on business! While getting ready for this trip I thought I would do a post on what things are important to me when I travel and what items I use. So why don’t we just dive right in!

So why don’t we just dive right in!

One // Comfort

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Whether I am on a short or long flight it is still important to me to try to be as comfortable as possible and that can mean different things for flights. For the that I am taking, I know that it is going to be a long overnight one so my comfort items I am bringing will cater to that. Probably my number one item is an eyemask (Amazon), I sleep better in complete darkness and I have an easier time falling asleep. Also aiding in the sleeping process are earplugs (Amazon), these are just as important! Especially if there are young children on the flight or chatty people around you, it’s good to have something to block out all the noise. A neck pillow (Amazon) adds much needed to support since I am so susceptible to stiff necks… they are the worse and I hate them. To round out this group I added a scarf (Abercrombie & Fitch, no longer available) which can have multiple uses. It can serve as a blanket for extra warmth or even as a makeshift neck pillow in case you forgot one or it is a short enough flight and you don’t want the extra items to haul around.

Two // Entertainment

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Entertaining yourself on a plane can be hard, especially for long flights. Sometimes your not in the mood to read what you brought or you’ve exhausted your Spotify playlists. That’s why I think it’s important to have a few options to entertain yourself. I have 2 books, one has short stories and one is a longer novel depending on my mood. I also have my Amazon Fire tablet with me where I have access to my audiobooks and some Netflix downloads (I downloaded the Crown and I am very excited to check it out). On my iPhone I downloaded a playlist of some of my favorite songs and a few episodes of my favorite podcast, My Favorite Murder (great dark comedy podcast, two thumbs way up). And we can’t forget the noise canceling Beats headphones my friend Gina lent to me for my travels; thanks Gina you’re the BEST!

Three // Skincare & Hygiene

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

I want a few items to be easier to get to such as lotion, face wipes, lip balm, and my toothbrush & paste. Airplanes can be very drying as most of you know so having hand cream (Kiehl’s), face lotion (Nourish Organics) and lip balm (Glossier) is very helpful so my skin doesn’t feel dried out. Face wipes (Simple) are also great for longer flights to help you refresh a little after you’ve taken a long nap. And I don’t think I have to explain the toothbrush and paste (Marvis) too much. If you’ve slept for a couple hours this will help with any kind of dragon breath you might be facing, but also if it’s a short flight or you don’t feel like brushing your teeth on the plane a pack or gum will be sufficient enough until you get to your hotel room.

Four // Snacks

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Packing snacks are very important because first you may not get food on your flight (not even peanuts, sad face) or you do get a meal and it may, unfortunately, be something you don’t like. If you don’t feel like bring your own you can always get something while at the airport. I think to bring simple snacks are a great option because you don’t want to anything to upset your something and you also want to courteous to people around you and some smells might upset people.

Five // Staying Healthy

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

I don’t know about you, but usually after I’ve been on a plane 9 times out of 10 I get some kind of bug. To help combat germs that circulate through that recycled air it is a good idea to bring some sort of antibacterial for your hands. Another great thing to have on hand are tissues! If it’s a cold plane ride and your nose is running you will be happy you have them or if you are in need of a napkin they will come in handy!

What is important to you when traveling?
