What to Wear // Late Fall Wedding

This past weekend one of my oldest friends got married and I couldn’t be happier! Although it was freezing this past Saturday it was clear skies and sunny out, a perfect day for a late fall wedding.

The older we get the fewer opportunities we have to get dressed up, but although weddings are a day to support and celebrate with two people united in marriage it is also an opportunity to dress up more than you would normally.

Weddings take place in every season and sometimes it can be hard to figure out what to wear in some of those seasons; especially late fall and winter.

When I was looking for a dress for this wedding I had a slight idea what I wanted. I know I wanted long sleeves but also flowy and definitely a fall color palette. One of my favorite places to get dresses from is Nordstrom, they have a great selection and I think their website is very searchable when you aren’t sure what you are looking for. Also, I love that they usually have a ‘Dresses Under $100‘ section, because you shouldn’t be spending an arm and leg.

I ordered three dresses knowing that I would only be keeping one if I was lucky and with Nordstrom’s great shipping and return policy it so easy to just click and buy. Two of the three dresses were from the same brand and the sizing was a bit funky and they ended up being too small, but my third dress from BB Dakota was a winner winner chicken dinner!

This dress truly had everything I was looking for – bell sleeves with a fit-and-flare silhouette and not to mention this Bordeaux color with this more minimal floral pattern. One of the features of this dress that I actually thought I wasn’t going to care for was the collar. The dress has a keyhole neck with button closure which gives the dress a more jewel neckline which I don’t normally gravitate to. As soon as I slipped it on it fit like a glove and I knew my search was over and my favorite part of the dress was the neckline!

Now, remember how I said that day was freezing??? Well, we can’t forget two very very important pieces to this outfit – tights and a coat. I just picked up these black tights from Old Navy, I don’t usually spend a lot on tights and don’t really see the point too. The cocoon silhouette coat is Lucky Brand and I picked it up from Macy’s at the end of the season last year. I wasn’t planning on buying a coat and thought it would be fun to try it on and well the rest was history. Unfortunately, it is unavailable but here are a few other coats I really like – 1 / 2 / 3 / 4

And of course lets not forget the piece of resistance, the velvet platform shoes. I felt the dress gave off a 70’s vibe and wanted to have a bit fun with the shoes but not spend a fortune. I had been eyeing these shoes at Target for a little bit but had nowhere to wear them to so didn’t buy them but once I decided on this dress it was game over. To top it off Target was having a 20% off shoe sale which made these puppies right around $26! And do you want to know the best part? THEY WERE SO COMFORTABLE! I wore them all night and didn’t take them off till I got home. Towards the end of the night my feet were getting a little sore but to be fair I danced my ass off.

What to wear for late fall/winter weddings can be tricky and stress, but they don’t have to be. I recommend purchasing a few options from a store you know and trust and bringing them home to try on and play with. Tights are your best friend and a cute/functional coat is your best accessory. Also, remember you can always have fun and spice up a look with shoes, it is unexpected and makes an impression.

Wrapped Up in Style

Style is defined by expressing yourself through what you wear.

Style refers to a unique form of clothing or way of arranging your appearance.

Style is different to everyone, you can give two or more people the same piece of clothing and they may style it completely different in what their own vision of style is.

Today’s post is in collaboration with Meach from My Versatile Style blog. Meach is a fellow Clevelander and a kickass girlboss who shows off her killer sense of style and how to style versatile pieces. I love looking at her Instagram (@itsmemeach) for inspiration and the latest fashion trends.

We are showing you today how 2 different people take the same piece of clothing and make it into 2 different outfits with their own personal style. We both took the same floral wrap dress from Nordstrom Rack with these great tied off bow cuffs and styled it our own ways in terms of what our personal style means to us.

Meach really captured the essence of transitional fashion by taking this long-sleeved dress and pairing it with nude stacked heels and a cognac leather bag. She truly balanced that in-between season style, since even though its October we have been getting some 80 degree days. Another thing I really love about her look is, she truly let the dress be the hero. She is not trying to make the dress work she is working the dress.

Are you inspired yet? I know I am, and I am going to file this look away for the next time I wear my dress. Check out what she has to say and additional gorgeous photos of Meach working this dress on her blog here!

When styling the same dress for myself, I know I wanted to take what felt like a more feminine wrap dress and give it a more edgy feel by adding little details that I have been loving lately to show off a different side of this dress.

Thick black belts with brass hardware is a classic piece that is truly timeless – there is something vintage about it that I love. To add a bit of edge I am wearing my favorite pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses right now that I cannot get enough of. For a while, their wayfarers were a staple but in the past 2 years, the round metal style truly made a comeback and the thin gold metal gives them an effortlessly cool vibe.

I wanted to add to the retro aspect of this look and I thought my gold hoops from Target would be perfect, as they hint at a 70s feel but don’t take to much away from my overall look. I have been wearing my gold hoops religiously lately, I truly feel that gold hoops are the new diamond (or CZ) stud – a classic in the making.

We can’t forget to talk about my latest obsession… socks & heels

If you remember from my blog post last week which I talked about this fall trend and gave some inspiration here, I thought this dress would be perfect to add this touch too. Some might see it as a bit much or busy, but I think it truly brings this outfit into fall and takes the dress to this retro yet trendy level that I was craving.

This dress is currently in stock at Nordstrom Rack last time I checked. And if you do not feel like heading out to your local Nordy Rack store never fear as you can snag it online as well here for only $26! I got a size medium, but honestly with the elastic waist I really probably could have gotten a small. Also, here is some other floral wrap dress that I am swooning over.

That’s a Wrap Dress

Hello beautiful readers! I hope you all had a great weekend, I know I did. I was lucky enough to be able to attend a Cleveland Blogger meet up this past Saturday at Hi and Dry restaurant in Tremont. It was an amazing afternoon to be surrounded and meet all of these amazing blogging women that were there to support one another.

We nibbled on some delicious appetizers from Hi and Dry and it was a great opportunity to get a taste of this newer place that took over the corner of Literary and Professor in Tremont. I can’t wait to go back and try more of their menu and do some bowling and drink some beer! We all mingled and went around and shared a little bit about ourselves and our blogs. It was great to hear first hand a little background of all of these blogs that are based out of the Cleveland area. Stella, from The Heart’s Delight, shared some killer photography tips and tricks that I can’t wait to utilize! And Anastasia, from Styled by Stacy, put together an awesome swag bag of local Cleveland goodies including a Blackberry scented candle from The Cleveland Candle Company, a bracelet from Banyan Tree, artwork from Cuyahoga Collective, and some beauty samples from Olive Me Beauty. Crystal, from Eat Drink Cleveland, also brought teas and coffee to try from Dreamers-Kowala Beans which represents an amazing cause by giving jobs to people of ALL abilities. And we can’t forget Leah, from By Travel And Error for bringing all these amazing women together and kicking off the Cleveland Blogger Meetups!

I wanted to share what I wore Saturday to the Cleveland Blogger Meetup, on that very very humid NE Ohio day. I recently purchased this denim sleeveless wrap dress from Gap.com when I saw my cousin Katie wearing it on a family Fourth of July party. I was obsessed immediately and knew I had to purchase it. So thank you, Katie, for inspiring this outfit ♥

5 Pool Day Essentials

We are half way through summer and pool days are becoming a regular staple in everyone’s weekly plans. I wanted to share with you guys today what my 5 essentials are for a pool day in Cleveland.

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

First off if you don’t own one of these are already, go to Amazon right now, go on, I’ll wait… A Bubba 52oz Mug for ultimate drink storage! My friend Breanne turned me on to these because she swears that they make or break a pool day. You can put so much in these bad boys that if you are like me and live in an apartment helps cut down on the times you have to run back upstairs to refill drinks. Another great thing about these is that they are not even that expensive, under $20! So go check them out, they are great to have handy.

Nothing says summer than a good summer beer am I right? If you are like me and like to enjoy an adult beverage while relaxing poolside my new summer favorite is Ohio’s own Platform Brewery’s Hyper Retro. This lemon ginger saison ale is described as citrusy, spicy, and bright; a must try for the summer!

What is a pool day without a good pair of sunglasses to block the haters? I recently got a pair of Ray Ban’s Round Metal sunglasses and although everyone has them, I feel like then have become a classic staple in our summer wardrobe over the past few years. I also feel incredibly stylish wearing these everywhere.

I don’t about you guys but I refuse to wear makeup to the pool, I mean what is the point? My friend Eileen gave me a sample of the COOLA Mineral Face Matte Tint SPF 30 and this has really become my go to face SPF for pool days. It adds the slightest bit of color while protecting your face from the sun. What I love about this product is the consistency, it almost turns to a powder when massaging it into the skin, it’s really quite nice!

So we can’t forget something for once the pool day has ended and on a semi recent Target trip, my friend Courtney and I discovered the best after-sun product EVER, Bare Republic® Daily Recovery After Sun Serum. This stuff is so soothing, light, non-sticky, and smells nice too for being an after-sun product. It is a serum consistency and absorbs nicely into the skin, I have even been using it on my face after a long day in the sun.
