What’s in My Makeup Bag: Fall Edition

The seasons they are a changing and so is my makeup bag. With the cooler weather I start to reintroduce more makeup back into my routine, and like fashion, makeup to has a transitional period. I thought I would share some new products that I have really been loving lately and that are all new to me.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita II – this terracotta nude is the perfect color for the fall and if you are not familiar with Kat Von D’s liquid lipstick then you have to go out and pick it up. The formula is very creamy and easy to apply but yet leaves a matte finish that lasts a decent amount of time. Along with the original Lolita shade, this is one of the brands best sellers and maybe even one of Sephora’s top sellers and I can see why. The shade is just very complimentary and not a nude shade you see often.

Wowder by Glossier – promoted as not a powder for the days you don’t want to look dewy and want to control shine. In the summer I am all about that dewy glow and I still like a little bit in the fall but there are more spots I want matte or at least to be able to control the dew. This is probably one of the best powders I have used on my skin, it is up there with Laura Mercier’s Translucent Setting Powder. The kaolin clay in this formula absorbs oil but vanishes into the skin (instead of sitting and caking on top like most powders). There is also vitamin E which gives Wowder its silky, non-drying texture which gives the finish I am raving about.

Glossier Cloud Paint in Beam – This is my third shade of this product because I LOVE this blush! It is so blendable, buildable, and you can mix it with other shades in the collection and create a new one so the possibilities are endless. It comes in three shades all which represent the NYC sunset and the shades are made to work across a wide range of skin tones for a “healthy, flushed-from-within glow.”

**If you want to try out these Glossier products use my rep link HERE to receive 20% off your first purchase. Also, save $7 when you buy the brush and Wowder together and $6 when you buy a Cloud Paint Duo (which in reality is more than 2 shades when you mix them) along with free shipping!**

Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Eye Shadow Palette – Now this is a very recent purchase and I am still playing around with all these rich pigmented colors. I have been seeing beauty YouTubers using this palette and creating these obviously dramatic looks, but also these amazing day looks that convinced me to go to Sephora and play with it. This palette is very intimidating in person so I had a girl from Sephora show me some great ways to mix and play with these colors. Once my eye look was done I was just like take my money.

MAC ‘Pro Longwear’ Paint Pot*CURRENTLY 15% OFF AT NORDSTROM* Another product that I kept seeing YouTubers refer to this as a cult product. This is a great base to any eyeshadow look and looks beautiful on its own, gives a very 90s eye by itself. There is magic in this formula let me tell you – its very buildable and creamy but yet has a vibrant finish which does not cake or crease.

A Kimono for Fall

This past week has been a whirlwind to say the least! I recently got back from a business trip in Europe which if any of you follow me on Instagram (@alison_kozik) I am sure your feed was getting flooded by my pictures, sorry not sorry.

Over the weekend I had the opportunity to sit down and chat over apps and drinks with other Northeast Ohio bloggers at The South Side in Tremont – HUUUUGE shout out to The South Side for hosting and accommodating our group, I think a lot of girls will be back to try their chicken and waffles! We had such a great mix of bloggers there, some newbies (like myself) and some OGs that have been blogging for 7+ years! It was so inspiring to talk to everyone and be able to tap into their knowledge. The big topic for this meet-up was working with brands, I spoke as a newbie and Alicia from Always Alicia (Poise in Parma) as a OG blogger. So many creative girlbosses in one room was just so inspiring!

On Sunday I took my mom to The Book of Mormon for her birthday. I have been dying to see this musical for a very very long time and even though my mom isn’t the biggest musical fan I thought this would be something different for us to do and that since its not a typical musical she would like it. And guess what? SHE LOVED IT! The play was funnier and cruder than I could ever imagine and I would totally see it again! We ended the evening at Mia Bella in Little Italy, Cleveland, one of our favorite restaurants to dine at. Since we didn’t feel like being so full we would need rolled out of the restaurant we split a eggplant app and a bowl of spaghetti but each enjoyed our own glass of wine.

Since I have been all over the place these last 2 weeks I wanted to share one of my more recent purchases, this kimono I got from TJ Maxx. What I love about this kimono besides the color is that it is almost robe inspired with the length and trim. Since this kimono has a lot going on with the color and print I didn’t want to take away from that and I wanted it to be the main show. I decided to pair it with an all black outfit which I thought would be great for the daytime or a casual evening, like drinks with girlfriends.

Kimonos are coming back and they are a great alternative to a jacket this fall and to be honest you don’t have to spend a lot of money to find one you love.

Don’t Go Chasing Waterfalls

The transitional period where summer starts to slow down and it begins to get darker little by little. That time where you can open your windows again and start to feel the nice crisp breeze come in. You can start to pull out your favorite sweaters and jackets to wear on a evening walk and not be too hot. This is one of my favorite times in Northeast Ohio.

Now although this is one of my favorite times in NEO, it can be hard deciding what to wear. I love crop jeans, or just crop pants in general, and these cropped destroyed flares from Old Navy are one of my favorites for this time! Along with a nice light weight button down is great to wear during this time. It is just a timeless article to have, striped or solid. I got this striped button down from Target and what I love about this one, besides being light weight, is that is very long in length to make it easier to tuck in or tie in front, which is what I am doing below.

Please lets talk about these slip on mule loafers which are also from Target and are most importantly, COMFORTABLE! I have been looking at this style of shoe for a very long time. When Gucci came out with them over a year ago and the price tag was a bit too steep, then shortly after that Steve Madden came out with their version which was more in reason (around $80 I believe), but when Target came into play the price was right at $23 and I had to get them!

This outfit, although casual, has a little bit of flare with bringing in the slip on mule loafers. I like to mix two type of styles together (although sometimes it doesn’t work) to create a new style. Its unexpected, but doesn’t give a feeling of too dressed down or too dressed up which can worn in multiple settings or transitional periods.

When looking for transitional pieces think light weight but also pieces that can cover up or light layers for those times were it does get warmer during midday. Cropped pants are another great piece to wear since you don’t have to wear boots yet (not that they will look bad necessarily) . And the best part is that these pieces will be also great for the winter to spring transition.

Scroll down and get excited for fall in Northeast Ohio – one of the most beautiful time us us NEOhioians.

Mom Jeans & 70s Dreams

1970s fashion has always been an era of fascination for me ever since I have remembered. I was probably the only 4th grader that had bell bottoms and crochet tops as her wardrobe staples and seventies themed birthday parties to boot. Thank you, mom, for providing the killer soundtrack for those parties. There is something about fall that makes me crave that seventies color palette and style. With it feeling more like fall this past week I have been feeling nostalgic for those bell bottoms. Unfortunately, I haven’t got my hands on a pair yet this season so my SNL inspired mom jeans will have to do.

Now I don’t if I look as cool as Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler did, but I am sure trying my hardest to rock these mom jeans. In my effort to channel my inner retro style I paired this off-the-shoulder top, I found at Target for $12.99, with my all time favorite basket sandals and gold hoop earrings. These hoops, which I found at Target as well for $7.99, have been an everyday earring for me lately. They give an effortlessly cool seventies vibe to this outfit which I am obsessed with.

When walking around Chagrin Falls trying to find the perfect setting to capture this outfit, it only made sense to go to one place. How many people can say that they matched their outfit with their surroundings? The Popcorn Shop in Chagrin Falls is a timeless spot, and although it was there way before the 1970s, it channels the spirit of a past decade.

Five Favorite Podcasts

Happy Monday to all! I took a little break from blogging to recharge my mind, as work was making me feel burned out everyday and it was hard to put energy into blogging during the last 2 weeks. I am sure all of you can relate that even though we love our hobbies and want to give them as much time and attention as we can, we all still have to make a living and bust our asses at our full-time jobs. But I am back and I am ready to give my passion (blogging) more time and energy.

One of my favorite things to listen to on my daily commutes to work is podcasts. I seem to stick to around 5 that I have actively listened to for the past year or so. So basically I rounded up those 5 and am sharing them with you today, maybe you may find something new to listen to or maybe you will finally give podcasts a shot.

My Favorite Murder:

Karn Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark do an amazing job of telling true crime stories mixed with a healthy amount of comedy without ever disrespecting any victims. This podcast gives the feeling of listening to your best girlfriends tell hometown tales of crime and murder. and if you are like me (a Murderino) and are fascinated but this genre then you have to give this a listen to because you won’t be disappointed.

Ladies Who Lunch:

This is hosted by YouTubers Ingrid Nilsen and Cat Valdes, and as a huge Ingrid YouTube fan, I naturally was drawn to this podcast. It’s basically two friends eating lunch and talking about topics that are “often left out of polite conversations”. They touch on subjects that involve sex, relationships, social phobias, mental illness and so much more. As a person who actually enjoys having these conversations with others to hear what their opinions are (although they have a tendency to escalate) its great to hear their point of views on the subject matters or their advice on having these conversations with others.

Anna Faris is Unqualified:

This podcast is such a good light entertaining choice. Anna Faris basically pairs up with some of her celebrity friends and while chatting they discuss what she likes to call it “not-great-relationship advice”. Anna is hilarious is general and listening to her interact with her Hollywood friends is quite entertaining and at the end of it all, I think that she does give great advice as if you were talking to a close friend.

Not too Deep with Grace Helbig:

Another YouTuber podcast hosted by Grace Helbig and Jack Ferry where they both interview other YouTubers and some celebrities all while getting not too deep. They ask the hard-hitting questions like describe your worse pants shitting story in 3 words or who would you throw cold spaghetti at (since it’s not harmful, but sends a message). I find myself laughing at Grace’s quirkiness and this is a good light listen.

S-Town:

This podcast is hosted by Brian Reed who is contacted by a man named John who hates his shit town located in Alabama and apparently has some information regarding a murder that took place there. The podcast quickly switches paths once Brian realizes it isn’t about a murder it’s about John’s eccentric life in Shit Town, Alabama. I highly recommend giving this a listen, Brian Reed does a fantastic job of interacting with John and all the characters that surround his life. Each episode you can’t predict where it is going but it hooks you in such a good way you can’t stop listening. I am so sad this is only a season long but I highly recommend it.

BRB, The 90’s Called

This past week was slightly insane on the work front since returning from Chicago. I found myself very burned out once arriving home basically everyday last week, so I was looking forward to a more low-key weekend.

After getting a much-needed bang trim and Starbucks/Target run in in the morning Courtney’s sister Gina graced us with her presence for a fajita and margarita party our apartment complex was throwing at the pool. It was such a nice afternoon to sit by the pool and sip on some lime margaritas without sweating profusely.  After a little bit of r & r and another Courtney joining the group, we were off to HiHO Brewery in downtown Cuyahoga Falls for a bunch of shareable food from Beef & Barley’s food truck and flights of beer (my personal favorite being the oatmeal stout). I wanted to wear something comfortable that evening and since it was cooler than normal this past Saturday I thought this Abercrombie & Fitch dress was perfect.

As soon as I saw this dress I immediately thought to myself that this dress is straight from the 90’s and I must have it. This dress fits like a glove but is flowy in all the right places. The buttons down the front of the dress are functional if you don’t want to slip it over your head and what I love about Abercrombie dresses is that they usually have a sewn in slip to provide additional coverage and quality. I paired this dress with a pair of medium hoop earrings that I got early in the day at Target. I’ve been wanting a pair of hoops this summer and I honestly never thought I would want another pair after my high school hoop phase. But these bad boys are the perfect size with not being too big or too small. I love when I can pair a cute summer dress with my black basket sandals that I got from Old Navy last year, they just remind me of another era. I was hoping Old Navy would bring them back again this year but unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it.

This past weekend was just what the doctor ordered; sleeping in, the company of great friends, and delicious food and drinks through out the weekend. I am facing Monday fully recharged and ready to tackle anything thrown at me.

All Tied Up

I don’t know about you but I was getting major fall vibes this past weekend. I traveled to Chicago with Courtney for one of my best friend’s wedding and I don’t think we could have asked for better weather. It was in the mid to high 70s all weekend long and we got an amazing lake breeze wherever we went. I was able to wear a light cardigan at times so instantly I got excited about fall fashion.

Recently Abercrombie sent me some amazing pieces that are great transition pieces from summer to fall and some of my favorites from the bunch had a common trend, ties!

I’ve been noticing this trend more and more the subtle touches either wrapped around the wrist or neck. I paired both tops with these amazing black high waisted cropped flares which were nice and stretchy for added comfort.

I’ve said this before on Instagram that I have been really impressed to see how Abercrombie has evolved as a leader in trend fashion since the days I was an assistant manager there. They have quality clothes at affordable prices and they are always running a good deal.
