Alson Jewelers & IPPOLITA

This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend a Bloggers & Bellinis event at Alson Jewelers in Woodmere, Ohio. Alson teamed up with IPPOLITA Jewelry to discuss fall jewelry trends and great tips and tricks for styling your jewelry by Courtney Craft, Stylist from IPPOLITA.

The morning was filled with beautiful jewelry, great company, and of course bellinis. We all got to try on some of the most beautiful and versatile necklaces from IPPOLITA and learn different ways to layer and create different looks with one necklace. What I loved about the IPPOLITA’s necklaces is that they are designed to be easily worn multiple ways. You can simply just slip it over your neck, wrap it to create a layered look, or create a choker that gives you a Y look that either drapes down your back or chest to add an interesting touch to your outfits. Courtney also demonstrated to us with IPPOLITA’s oval-shaped bangles (which are designed to fit a womans wrist more comfortably since we do not have perfectly circled wrists) how to use a silk scarf to put on and remove a bangle with ease.

We all then took a Style Personality Quiz to help match us with the perfect jewelry set – I got Classicist which did not surprise me as I would describe my style as “minimal and meaningful”.

I want to give a special shout-out to Jill Schreibman and the Schreibman Brothers for hosting such a wonderful event at 4th generation owned Alson Jewelers. This jeweler has so much to offer – watch and jewelry repair & cleaning, a beautiful wedding shop, along with great fashion to classic jewelry offerings; they truly made it a one stop shop!

Amanda from Blissful Gal and Katie from Kausally Katie – Go check out these ladies blogs they are seriously killing it!

After the Bloggers & Bellinis event Amanda, Katie and I decided to head to Legacy Village to grab a bite to eat at the Cheesecake Factory and do a little much-needed shopping. Which of course when you get 3 bloggers together a mini photo session ensues, but can you blame us? The day was to much fun not to properly document.

After shopping till we almost dropped we decided to end this amazing Cleveland day with checking out the Greater Cleveland Aquarium. I was really excited to check it out since I have never been there and have heard great things about this little Cleveland gem.

What I loved about the Aquarium was there were so many knowledgeable workers there in case you had any questions about what you were looking at or they were already giving a presentation for a larger exhibit that you can easily join to listen in. The Aquarium also provides a lot of touch and feel stations to give a more one on one experience and teach kids and adults a little bit more how to interact with sea life.

You could tell that we were all Finding Nemo and Finding Dory fans since our venture through the aquarium consisted a lot of quoting both movies.

Bottomline if you are looking for a fun, nicely located, and family friendly (of all ages) weekend activity you should take a day out of your weekend and check out the Greater Cleveland Aquarium.

Thank you Greater Cleveland Aquarium for having Amanda, Katie and I come and explore everything you have to offer!

Alison’s Articles // Switching to Natural Deodorant

So who wants to talk about natural deodorant? Sounds like a great topic to start your week out right? RIGHT! I’m going to be completely honest I did not think switching to natural deodorant was going to be such a process. I mean did you know there was a detox period??? I didn’t, but I didn’t really do a lot of research before switching.

I have been thinking about switching to natural deodorant for about a year before I actually made the commitment to switch, trying once but giving up quickly. The first time I tried to make the switch I just picked up Tom’s from Target and was like this will be easy. I will just switch to this and be done… wrong! The first day or 2 I noticed I was sweating more and just not overall liking the deodorant I chose, so I just switched back to my normal chemical packed one from Secret. I got the notion in my head that I sweated too much to switch to natural.

Back in the end of March, I believe while I was in Sephora with Eileen I saw in their travel section the Lavanila natural deodorant and just thought man I really want to try again to make the switch maybe it was just because I tried a drugstore brand, so I bought the travel size to try. The first week was a little rough… there was an increase of wetness and smelliness and I noticed I started to get a bit of red irritation, which worried me a little bit. Since the redness didn’t go away I started to research a bit and found out that this redness is most likely caused because my armpits were detoxing. Basically detoxing is the aluminum that is present in typical drugstore deodorant clogs your underarm sweat glands which interrupt your body’s natural ability to remove materials that would normally be removed through your body’s natural process of sweating. So now that I have stopped putting pore clogging aluminum under my arms my body was overproducing sweat until it can start to regulate.

By the second week, although my sweating and smelliness started to normalize, the red irritation was not and now I was having my lymph nodes so swollen I could see them. My under arms at this point felt as if I was on crutches for the past 2 weeks with no padding. After doing some more research which included swollen lymph nodes I read something that was interesting to me that since natural deodorant uses a lot of baking soda in it that it sometimes tends to cause irritation and to look for a baking soda free option. I instantly remembered that one of my favorite YouTubers, Ingrid Nilsen (which you should totally check out her videos), mention that she was sensitive to baking soda and uses a baking soda free option. I went back through some of her videos and found the brand Meow Meow Tweet.

At the time when I purchased this on Amazon they only had the jar option (they came out 2 weeks ago with a paper push up option, here). I was little nervous trying a jar, would it messy? would it be hard to apply? No and no! I can’t even explain the consistency this product turns into once you begin applying to your underarms but it almost becomes a powder and leaves your finger clean and dry. After the first day, I noticed my irritation starting to go down along with my lymph nodes. This option was a little bit more expensive ($18) but a lot of natural deodorants are so I am not going to complain about the price point and I have had it since March and barely used half of it. Now, I don’t know if I will always be sensitive to baking soda based deodorants or it was just a shock to my system with switching to a natural option, but I really like this brand and deodorant. Can it last from the time I wake up at 5:30 all the way to 10 at night? no, but it gets me through the work day or longer depending on what my day consists of. I also use Pacifica under arm wipes as a refresh when needing to reapply, it neutralizes any existing odor and cleanses my skin of older product. Those wipes are a must in my opinion when going natural.

I am going to leave you with a little advice if you are thinking about making the switch:

  1. You don’t smell as bad as you think and you are probably the only one that notices
  2. You probably don’t sweat naturally as much as you think either – give your body some time to regulate again
  3. Underarm wipes are you best friend
  4. Maybe start out the switch with a baking soda free option

Alright folks, this is my opinion and personal experience with switching to natural deodorant. I also wanted to end by saying that I am in no way a health professional, these are just things that I have noticed and did during my own personal experience with making the switch.

Morning Skincare Routing // May 2017

Hello, beautiful readers and happy Monday! I wanted to talk about my current morning skincare routine today. I have been basically using these products or variations of these products for a couple months now. As I mentioned before I am slowly transitioning my products to cruelty-free but I still have quite a bit to work through. But I just want to state that I am not a licensed esthetician and this is just what I am using currently and what works for my normal/slightly combo skin type.

SIMPLE Cleansing Micellar Water

FullSizeRender_4

I don’t use a cleanser in the AM, instead, I opt for micellar water. It’s nice and gentle in the morning and honestly how dirty does my face get while I am sleeping, there is no need to strip my face, just removing the products from last night. Currently, I am going through my stockpile of micellar water, I was using Garnier for awhile, but I am on the look out for a cruelty-free on to replace these both, any recommendations?

MARIO BADESCU Facial Spray With Aloe, Herb and Rosewater

Next, I spritz my face with this rose water spray, it’s such a nice wake me up in the morning. Rosewater has anti-inflammation properties and helps with redness and irritation. I have been using Mario Badescu’s rosewater for over a year now and I can’t get enough of it (I even keep a small one at my desk at work for a 2 pm refresh). This spray also has a duel purpose as a makeup setting spray, whenever I do a full face.

ORIGINS GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream (sample size)

FullSizeRender_7

While I am letting the rosewater dry and absorb into my skin I dab on this Origins eye cream that I got a sample of from Sephora. I don’t have any particular eye cream that I love at the moment so I am currently working through the samples I have.

FIG + YARROW Facial Serum Rosehip + Argan

FullSizeRender_5

I talked about this in my Target Natural Aisle post (Here) and I have been alternating this and the next item every morning. I am still loving this formula and how it absorbs nicely into the skin. I am noticing the ingredient rosehip oil more and more lately and actually seems to be a new “trend” in skincare. But, the great thing about rosehip oil is that it helps with discoloration and wrinkle prevention. This oil is packed with antioxidants and fatty acids to help improve skin texture. Bottomline, you don’t have to try this particular brand but I recommend you trying rosehip oil this year.

OLEHENRIKSEN Truth Serum

Another amazing Sephora sample that I alternate with the above product. Without a doubt, if you want to have vitamin C serum in your routine this is, in my opinion, one of the best products out there. Its benefit is brightening your skin tone and preventing signs of aging and absorbs nicely.

PIXI By Petra Sun Mist

FullSizeRender_6

This is a newly acquired product (if any of you follow me on Instagram Alison_Kozik this might look familiar) to my morning skincare routine. I’ve been in the market for a good facial sunscreen that doesn’t clog my pore and this is it. Once I shake it up I spray it about 3 times onto my face and instead of rubbing it into my skin, I pat it in. I’ve notice Pixi products popping up more and more on beauty blogs and youtube videos and I have only recently come intrigued by the product line. I have a couple things I want to try next on my list which I will keep you posted on.

GLOSSIER Priming Moisturizer

I really like this moisturizer for the daytime, especially when I am wearing makeup. This product provides a great base for makeup or just a bare face. I would recommend an actual primer if you are using full coverage foundation.

GLOSSIER Balm Dotcom

FullSizeRender_7

And to top the whole process off I apply some Balm Dotcom and let that soak into my lips before I apply any lip product.

Have you tried any of these products?

Target’s Natural Aisle

Hello to all that have stumbled on my blog this fine day! I have been slowly transitioning to natural, cruelty-free, and even vegan products when and where I can. A few weeks ago I was at Target and picked up a couple new natural products to try and decided I wanted to share them with you!

I am sure all of you are aware how Target has completely upped their game when it comes to these products, and how they are bringing smaller brands to the masses. Another reason to spend hours in Target. But without further ado here is what I picked up!

Zum Frankincense and Myrrh Mist

First off I love the description of this product, “spritzes away bad vibes and nasty funk, leaving you in an aromatherapy paradise”. I’ve noticed this mist before but never paid much attention to it and finally decided to pick it up and check it out. The scent is very strong, only one or 2 spritzes necessary and if you’re not an essential oil fan this scent may be a little much for you. It is a dark woodsy that instantly gives me a sense of comfort. I’ve been spraying it around my room every few days when I am not using my oil diffuser.

Fig + Yarrow Facial Serum Rosehip + Argan

FullSizeRender_5

Another great natural Target find! Target and Fig + Yarrow teamed up to create exclusive products for Target stores and this serum is just one of them. This serum is derived from plants so this may be as natural as it can get. Although this is a serum it acts more as a facial oil, but it absorbs nicely into the skin and a little bit goes a long way. When I apply my moisturizer it doesn’t leave my skin with a heavy feeling, which I was initially scared of since I felt it was more of a facial oil. Fig + Yarrow recommends using this serum along with their Complexion Water, which may be a future purchase to try. Also, can we talk about this killer packaging? I wish I wasn’t a sucker for packaging, but we got to give credit where it is deserved. So far I have just been using this during the day and honestly, have been really liking, it too early to tell if I am noticing any difference but I will keep you updated.

Pacifica Aquarian Gaze Mascara Abyss

FullSizeRender_1

Buy Here!

This 100% vegan and a cruelty-free brand have a pretty decent waterproof mascara. Now there are no bells and whistles that come along with this formula, I am just happy that by 10:00 am I don’t have raccoon eyes. This is just a good basic, no frills mascara that has good staying power. If you are looking for volume or lengthening this probably wouldn’t be the one for you but it could probably be a good base if you like layering.

What have you tried from Target’s natural Aisle?

3 Lipsticks for Spring

Hello all and happy Monday! I’ve noticed I have been reaching for three lipsticks lately this spring season and wanted to share them with you. Are they the traditional spring pinks? No, they are just what I have been liking a lot at the moment and it’s spring, so here are my spring lipstick picks deal with it :P.

Dior Rouge – 999

FullSizeRender_3A bit more on the pricey side, but this shade has a cult following for a reason, it looks AMAZING ON EVERYONE. This highly pigmented satin finish (also comes in matte, which apparently is the iconic version, whoopy doo) with blue undertones is part of the Rouge Dior lipstick line which is full of iconic reds, corals, and pinks in both satin and matte finishes. I got color matched with this in Sephora about 2 months ago and it took me forever to find a store that had this in stock. But with help from Courtney, I got it on Macy’s online.

Buy Here at Sephora

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Luminous Modern – Bond Girl

FullSizeRender_4Another more pricey option, but well worth it. This is a very buildable formula, and although it is technically a matte finish it sits more as a satin-ish finish on me. It’s about a shade or two darker than my natural lips colors and is described as a chic natural berry (and I do feel chic wearing it). It is a great everyday lipstick and I usually gravitate towards this during the week or during the day on weekends.

Sephora Collection – 04 Brown is Back!

FullSizeRender_5Let me take you back to the early 2000s when I was obsessed with a Bonnie Bell brown lipstick – fast forward to the more sophisticated option at Sephora, so I guess technically brown is back. The color is such a modern take on the iconic 90/00’s brown lip, it’s been reinvented as a pinky light brown shade. This lipstick has a surprising staying power without the over drying that matte lipsticks can cause sometimes. For only $14 dollars I would totally repurchase and try other colors in the line (spoiler alert; I already have).
